Advice on writing tools and publishing.

  • The final thesis may by presented on a website, but it mus also be handed in as a printed document. It is therefore a good idea to use a tpesetting system such as LaTeX or DocBook.
  • LaTeX is preinstalled on most Unix/Linux systems and is available for free downloading on both MS Windows and Mac OS platforms. LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents. (http://www.latex-project.org/)
  • LaTeX has package implementations for most western and some other languages.
  • Effective writing and markup for LaTeX or DocBook is significantly enhanced by the use of a good text editor such as Emacs which has major modes in the form of eLisp modules for many writing and programming environments. (See the resources page.)
