DRONE DIARY

FLYING CAMERAS FOR DIGITAL HUMANITIES

A diary of building, learning, experiments and experience with small, affordable drones as platforms for digital documentation of cutural sites and artifacts

A diary of building, learning, experiments and experience with small, affordable drones as platforms for digital documentation of cutural sites and artifacts. It includes entries on learning how to fly and repair after inevitable crashes, choosing cameras, tracking drone flights, the unreliability of GPS, post-processing photographs, building mosaics and panoramas, simple stereography, 3D-modeling, X3D and HTML. There are also stories of the travails of building drones, poorly documented software and hardware, recalcitrant computers, some depressing disasters and the occaisional success.
