Project III - Mapping complex information
Mapping complex information
Introduction
This project combines some of the functions and techniques used in
the previous two, illustrating challenges and solutions involved in
processing, ordering and conveying complex information.
Aim
To build a series of interfaces that find, selects and structures
complex information, presenting it in a meaningful and functionally
useful way.
Metods and design
Design routines have been outlined in previous lectures and project introductions.
- Choose a collection of reasonably complex information, preferably (but not necessarily) of mixed media types.
- Decide on aim, target audience, functionality, processing and presentation environment.
- Set a time schedule. (These projects will be criticized in week 48)
- The main elements of the project should some form of programmed process in the collection and structuring phase and a WWW-interface for presentation containing Java applets to post-process the information instances for presentation.
- This is a group exercise.
Result
The main "problem" with this exercise is probably its "free" form, so
you're going to have to spend some time trying to define an idea,
describe the main problems and arrive at alternative solutions.
The result of the project should be a collection of web documents
containing processes that present the information.
