Vest-Agder county and Lista in particular has a long history of economic migration to the USA and Brooklyn specifically. By 1920 a third of the population of the peninsula had either emigrated permanently or were commuting economic migrants. The American cultural heritage brought back by the regular migrants up into the late 1960s is celebrated annually at Vanse.
